This Social Studies Package - Civil Rights explores how Civil Rights leaders like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr. used non-violent action to challenge segregation in the 1950s and 1960s. Students will learn about life under segregation, efforts to integrate schools, and the role of young activists. They will also develop research skills through a unit-long project using oral history interviewing or library and online sources. While it can be used alone, this unit pairs well with the Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry literature unit.
