Carlisle and the History of Football - posted from Linton, ND

Radio Lab released an interesting history of football that left me stunned. If your child found the photos and history of the Carlisle Indian School intriguing, the first half of this podcast basically gives Carlisle much of the credit for making football what it is today.

What I found especially interesting is the son of a Carlisle graduate talking about Colonel Pratt (the founder of Carlisle). It is easy today to criticize Pratt's methods, but many of the Native Americans that went to his school loved him and treat him like a hero. He did what he did because of his love for the people he once fought against. History is not always what it seems at first glance.

American Experience: We Shall Remain - posted from McKinney, TX

The last episode of the series is about Wounded Knee. The beginning talks about the stand-off in the 70s, but there is background given about the battle and the boarding schools that is really touching and thorough. Free on Amazon Prime
