We got a great book at the library that has braille as well as written words so children can see how they correlate with each other. There are also pictures that have raised edges. The book is called, Touch the Universe: A NASA Braille Book of Astronomy

Braille - posted from Glenside, PA
Use 3D glue "pens" or regular glue to create the dots. I had my girls do their own names. I made up several word cards for them to practice reading Braille. Adjust the size of the 6-dot "cells" according to fine motor skill abilites. I tried to make mine tight to mimic real braille. Our library had one authentic braille book available, which was worth taking a look at as well.
