My son came up with the idea of a quilt made from the fabric of various immigrant's clothing for his mosaic example. This made me think of The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco. It's also a good tie in with House of Tailors! Polacco has a cute video on youtube during which she explains the quilt (and her dream of being a bullfighter)!

This was my illustration of us Americans as a mosaic. I say mosaic because its like every culture is a different color, and you need more than 1 color to paint a pretty picture.

Albert Einstein is a good example of someone who immigrated for freedom from fear. Encyclopedia Britannica for Kids has a a write-up about Einstein and his reasons for immigrating. It's possible that without one's being a member, the link cannot be accessed, but it's worth a try.
