Warm and Cold Fronts tip - posted from East Corinth, VT
We recommend using a 9x13 glass pan for the front simulation. Then use a slow mo video to record and watch. This was cool to observe! The metal pan that came with the kit blocked visibility.
What was the expected outcome? - posted from Fox Point, WI
Our outcome for this activity was purple water. What was supposed to be demonstrated? I went to the links provided here to show how fronts work, which was fantastic, but I'd call the activity a no-go for us.

Watching Warm & Cold Fronts Meet - posted from West Allis, WI
We skipped the clay and instead used a piece of weather stripping like the kind you use to seal windows and doors. It comes in a roll and what we had on hand was 3/8". It is self adhesive and has a groove down the middle to hold the divider. We pealed the adhesive and affixed a strip from one side of the tin tray to the other side. We inserted divider into the groove of the weather stripping and applied downward pressure to keep it in place. The weather stripping kept the water from mixing while we were doing the pouring. It is much better option than the clay!
front experiment - posted from Dallas, TX
This experiment was a pain to set up. The clay seal did not hold up and in the end, nothing I tried worked to hold the water seal and I ended up with slimy clay and no experiment.

Correction: Lesson 9 - Activity 2 - posted from Linton, ND
The student activity pages in books printed before September 2010 contain an error in this activity. The corrected student activity pages are attached.
The error included the same instructions for demonstrating hot and cold fronts. The instructions are very similar, but are different.
