Not living in America alternative - posted from Columbus, IN
Since we do not live in America and are not Americans, we used the book "How to Build Your Own Country" (CitizenKid) by Valerie Wyatt and Fred Rix. It is a fun and creative approach to the significance of all components that make up a country. We got to create our own country (the climbing frame in our case), make our own flag, and National Anthem, Constitution etc. Even my 4 year old was sold on the idea.
In the process we listened to many National Anthems to get inspiration and looked at many country flags.
Very fun!
Activity 1 and Activity 3 - posted from Morrisville, PA
Two great books we got from the library:
Red, White and Blue-The Story of the American Flag by John Herman
The Pledge of Allegiance (Symbols of Freedom Series) by Lola Schaefer
My daughter really enjoyed these two books and understood the concepts of the pledge and the flag much better after reading these.
Blessings,
Sarah
