Check out Whoosh! Lonnie Johnson's Super Soaking Inventions about a kid who started inventing when he was school aged and continued to do so for his entire life. It is suggested for grades 2-4, but my 1st grader enjoyed it.

We read http://www.amazon.com/Steve-Rookie-Biographies-Joanne-Mattern/dp/0531247058 about Steve Jobs, visited an Apple Store (after talking about how it all started in his garage) and then watched Toy Story (mentioned in the book as the world's first ever computer animated movie - by Pixar, owned by Steve Jobs).
