Lesson 3: Physical Changes

Filter Paper too Small - posted from Woodstock, GA

We had the same problem with the filter paper--it is too small to fit over any reasonable sized cups. As a solution, we doubled layers of cheesecloth and used this as a filter paper, achieving a good result.

Problems with lab - posted from Bedford, NH

The filter paper provided is far too small to fit over the cups provided. We finally found my toddler's sippy cup that had a small enough opening for the tiny filter paper to fit over. But it was so small that it's surface are shouldn't possibly hold all the sand and iron fillings that were supposed to be dumped on top of it. So we lined a small strainer with the 4 filter papers and dumped the mixture on top of that. Just another example of poorly-planned science in this level.
