Lesson 1: Getting Started

Lost Treasures of Egypt by National Geographic - posted from Cohoes, NY

This programme on Disney+ was perfect for learning more about the Egyptian pyramids and the Valley of the Kings. It follows the archeologists and egyptologists as they uncover new clues about the Ancient Egyptians. We only watched a couple of episodes so far, but there are two seasons worth of shows to choose from!

Other Historical Paper Dolls - posted from Suwanee, GA

This site has free printable paper doll pages for both men and women throughout many different history periods and countries. We colored the clothing, cut out the pieces, and pasted them onto a scene.

Activity 6 - Setting - posted from Georgetown, TX

For my REALLY hands-on son, we began a diorama of the story's setting on day one of this unit, and added each day according to what we read/learned about in the story. For example: 1) put sand in a box & made an Egyptian style home out of quick-dry clay, 2) added the Nile River going right through the middle, complete with clay-formed boats, crocodiles and a hippo, 3) made a clay pyramid, 4) made a small mummy coffin, with a mummy inside that would fit into the pyramid. My son also chose to make 'extras' such as clay-molded people and pots as seen in the story book. At the end, I made him explain the setting he made and the significance in history of these various elements.

Introduction Video to Egypt - posted from Georgetown, TX

A nice, short video by National Geographic that overviews Ancient Egyptian practices. About 3 minutes in length. If the link does not work (I don't know how to embed a video), search for Ancient Egypt and choose the "Tombs of Ancient Egypt" video
