- An inference is an assumption made based on given information.

- The major parts of a boat include the mast, rudder, sails, deck, and oars
Lesson 4: Who Is Abel?
- A map scale shows the relationship between a distance on a map and the corresponding distance on the earth.
Lesson 5: Perseverance
- A paragraph has a topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a conclusion sentence.
- A conflict is the problem or struggle a character in a story faces.

Lesson 7: Threats
- A behavioral adaptation is something an animal does or how it acts to live in its environment.
- A physical adaptation is the physical design of an animal's body that aids in its survival.

Lesson 8: The Dead of Winter
- Hibernation is when an animal goes into a deep sleep and cannot be roused.
- Torpor is a state similar to hibernation, but it lasts a shorter time, and the animal can wake up and move around.
Lesson 9: The Newcomer
- Script — the lines for the characters and stage directions
- Set — the stage and scenery where the action occurs
- Prop — items that are used by the actors on stage
- Stage directions — actions the characters should take on stage (written in parentheses)
Lesson 10: Escape
- A noun is a person, place, or thing.
- An adjective describes a noun.
- A verb is a word that shows action or being.
- An adverb describes a verb.
Lesson 11: Home at Last
- The theme of the story is a lesson or message the author wants to convey to the reader through the story.
