Lesson 1: What Causes Change?
- You see changes by observing.
- Observe means to watch something very closely to learn more about it.
- Change is when something becomes different over time.
- A cause is an action or something that makes something else happen.
- The thing that happens as a result of the cause is the effect.
Lesson 2: What Changed?
- Location is where something can be found in the environment.
- Amount, size, color, weight, and location are all ways that objects can change.
Lesson 3: Changing Position
- A force is a push or pull.
- A force (push or pull) can change the motion of an object in three ways: go faster, go slower, or change the direction of the motion.
- A force (push or pull) is needed to start objects moving or to stop objects that are moving.
- An index is a part of a book that tells you on what pages certain topics or keywords can be found in the book. The index appears near the end of the book.
Lesson 4: Changes in the Environment
- Environmental changes are changes that happen in nature.

- The Earth rotates on its axis.
- The Earth revolves around the Sun.
- The Moon revolves around the Earth.

- All living things change.
Lesson 8: Plants and Change
- A table of contents appears near the beginning of a book; it lists the different sections in the book and the page numbers where they can be found.
- Plants have roots, stems, leaves, and sometimes flowers, fruits, or vegetables.
- Plants need dirt, water, and sunlight to grow and change.
Lesson 9: Heat Causes Change
- When ice is heated, it turns into water.
- When water is heated, it turns into steam.
Lesson 10: Chemical Changes
- Physical change is a change in size, shape, color, or state of matter.
- Chemical change occurs when a new substance is formed.
Lesson 11: People Change the Environment
- Reducing means using less of something, while reusing means using something more than once.
- Recycling is the process of changing waste to reusable material.
