Lesson 1: Listening for Sounds
- People who do not hear are deaf.
- Vibrations occur when an object moves or shakes back and forth.
- Vibrations make sound.
Lesson 2: The Ear
- The ear is made up of many parts.
- Sound waves travel through the ear and cause vibrations within the ear.
- Nerves send messages from the ear to the brain.
Lesson 3: Sound Travels
- Sound travels more quickly through solids and liquids than through gases.
Lesson 4: Sound Waves
- Sound travels through sound waves.
- Frequency is how fast or slow sound vibrates.
- Frequency is also called pitch or note.
- High-pitched sound waves move quickly, and low-pitched sound waves move slowly.
Lesson 5: Pitch or Frequency
- Sound waves with a faster vibration have a high pitch, and sound waves with a slower vibration have a low pitch.
Lesson 6: Music, Voice, and Instruments
- Wind instruments are those that you blow into to create a sound.
- Percussion instruments are instruments that you rub together, shake, or strike with your hand.
- Stringed instruments are those that have strings that you strum with fingers or a bow.
- Vocal cords are flaps of tissue in the throat that vibrate and make sound.
