Lesson 1: Reading the Skies
- Weather is the way the sky looks and the air outside feels.
- Rain, hail, sleet, and snow are all different types of precipitation.
Lesson 2: Types of Precipitation
- Precipitation is water falling from the sky in the form of rain, snow, hail, or sleet. Precipitation fills our lakes and rivers to provide us the water we need to live.
- Rain is formed when warm, damp air meets cooler air in the sky.
- A prediction is a guess about what will happen.
- Symmetry is when you can fold something in half and the two sides line up.
Lesson 3: Measuring and Charting Weather
- Temperature tells us how hot or cold something is.
- A thermometer measures the temperature of something.
- A rain gauge measures the amount of rain that falls from the sky.
Lesson 4: Simulating Weather
- Wind is caused by warm air rising over cool air.
- Clouds are formed when warm, damp air mixes with smoke or dust in the sky.
Lesson 5: Fall
- Winter, spring, summer, and fall are the seasons of the year.
- September, October, and November are fall months.
Lesson 6: Winter
- In the summer, the Earth leans toward the Sun, and in the winter the Earth leans away from the Sun.
- December, January, and February are the months of winter.
Lesson 7: Spring
- Spring follows winter.
- Flowers, fruits, and vegetables grow from seeds planted in the soil.
- For seeds to grow, they need dirt, water, and sunlight.
- March, April, and May are the months of spring.
Lesson 8: Summer
- Summer follows spring.
- Summer is the warmest season.
- June, July, and August are the months of summer.
Final Project: Weather Games
- A meteorologist is a scientist who studies the weather.
