- An environment is the people and things that surround a human, plant, or animal where it lives.
- A healthy environment has food, water, and shelter for the animals, plants, and people who live in it.
- Shelter provides protection from weather (for example, a house, burrow, or tree).

- A map is a picture that shows where places in the environment are located and how to find them.
Lesson 3: Guide to Animal Habitats
- A habitat is the environment where plants and animals live and grow.
- Wetlands, grasslands, woodlands, and deserts are types of habitats.
Lesson 4: Animals Live and Grow
- Animals have basic needs for food (energy), air, water, and an environment in which to live.
- Animals depend on plants or other animals to provide them with energy.
- A consumer is an organism (living thing) that eats another organism.
- A living thing that is eaten by another organism is called an energy source.

- A graph is a picture that shows us how much of something there is and/or shows patterns.
- A pictorial graph uses pictures to show how many objects are in a group.
