Lesson 1: Data and Graphing Basics

• Data: a collection of facts, including numbers, words, measurements, and observations
• Survey: to collect data by asking people questions about their opinions and behaviors
• Graph: a picture that shows numbers or amounts in two or more groups
• Bar graph: a graph that uses rectangular bars to show amounts
• Pictograph: a graph that uses pictures to show amounts
• Non-scaled (single-unit) graph: graph that uses numbers that count by 1
• Scaled graph: graph that uses numbers that count by a number other than 1
